Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the most ancient of the healing systems practiced
at the Maris - it was founded in China over three thousand years
ago.
It is a system of medicine based on the fact that our body
is an organised energy system which, if out of balance causes
disease.
The internal causes of disease include the emotions which
can effect the internal energies; the external causes of disease
include the environment - the elements, and our lifestyle.
A diagnosis of these imbalances requires precise knowledge
of the interaction of the different flows of energy (meridians)
- in Chinese medical terms the Chi - and the points of access
to these flows. It also requires a superb manual skill to
feel the "pulses" at the wrist which reveal the
quality of these flows.
As you will know, acupuncture uses disposable needles - they
are very fine and barely noticeable when gently inserted by
the skilful fingers of the acupuncturist - they actually don't
hurt! These are placed at the energy access points where there
are "blocks" or imbalances so that the flow of energy
can be restored - again restoring a balance within the body
so that the body can heal itself.
Acupuncture is appropriate for maintaining health and treating
a wide range of chronic conditions and also acute states such
as colds, flu, hay fever and backache.
